Yes, here in the great lakes we rely upon and love our Coast Guard. Here is a couple illustrating why we need them. The ice mountains on Lake Michigan are constantly shifting. Snow covers inch thick ice bridges. When you fall through, you're stuck under the ice, which, as you can see can be fifteen feet thick in places. If you are doing something completely assinine, as these two are, and fall in, the Coasties will charge you rescue fees.
